LAMENTS OF A BROWN BIRD SUMMER
with Imaginarium Theater Company
by Cris Eli Blak
directed by Marissa Joyce Stamps
*video available upon request
Luis works as a security guard at a local public high school. As the six month anniversary of both his daughter and wife taking their own lives, Luis must try to find a way to navigate both the world around him, his own feelings and the people around him, including his one living daughter, his late-daughter's boyfriend, and his co-worker who questions him on his own ideals. This is a play about what it means to be a Black or Brown man with feelings, grief and untapped pain; what it means to hold that in and what may happen if you let it out, and how your reaction towards something may lead to you facing the same fate.
